NHL DRAFT DAY - SPIRIT COREY TRIVINO SELECTED 36th OVERALL IN NHL ENTRY DRAFT
Islanders grab popular Stouffville Spirt leader
June 24, 2008

The New York Islanders have selected center Corey Trivino with their first second-round pick (36th overall). With Stouffville of the OPJRA, Trivino finished first on the team in assists with 50 and second in points with 69.
Trivino was second on Team Canada at the World Under-18 Tournament with four goals, helping them lead to a Gold Medal.

Islanders Pro Scout Tim MacLean: “I had the opportunity of seeing Corey play a number of times. He's a very skilled playmaker and adept at finding open linemates in scoring position. Corey has the ability to run the power play. His team used him on the blueline all season during the man advantage. He had a lot of international experience this season and proved he has the ability to step up. Corey is primarily a playmaker but also has a very good shot. He does a good job of getting to the open ice. He has excellent hockey sense and sees the ice well. Corey brings a lot creativity and is a good kid. We're excited to get Trivino in the second round of the draft.”

Mark Joslin received a belated birthday present Thursday, after turning 44 two days earlier.
Giving the Richmond Hill resident that gift was the Stouffville Spirit, who named him as their new general manager.
Joslin became the club’s fourth GM in just over a year.
Joslin replaced Thomas Milne, who resigned in late March. Milne had taken over from Matt Gibson, who had resigned in October. Gibson replaced Ken Burrows, who was fired 13 months ago.
In addition to handling the general manager’s position, Joslin will serve as an associate coach and work with returning head coach Dave D’Ammizio.
“It feels great. It’s a great opportunity,” Joslin said. “I’ve watched Stouffville play over the last couple of years. There’s a lot of upside to the team and it’s a great community. I feel fortunate to be a part of the organization. I’ll take the ball and run with it.”
Joslin is no stranger to the league having been head coach of the Pickering Panthers of the South Conference in the 2007-08 campaign. The Panthers finished the season in last place with a 10-38-1 mark.
Joslin’s familiarity with the Spirit and their organization stemmed from his time as an assistant coach with the rival Aurora Tigers for three seasons. Included in that stint was the 2006-07 year in which the Tigers won the Royal Bank Cup.
Over the last two seasons, he also served as a scout for the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League.
Joslin said his first priority is to assemble with D’Ammizio and assistant coach Pat Pare and organize the club’s annual rookie camp, to be held May 3 and 4 at the Stouffville Arena.

The Spirit was willing. The Tigers, however, were able.
Even on a night when the Stouffville Spirit played its best game of the series, the Aurora Tigers found a way to get the job done with a 3-2 overtime victory Friday at the Aurora Community Centre to claim the best-of-seven North Division title series in five games
Jeff Vanderlugt became the hero for Aurora, lifting the puck past Stouffville netminder Trevor O'Neill at the edge of the crease for the clincher at 1:11 of overtime as the Tigers claimed their second straight North Division title and sixth in seven seasons.
